Artist Statement
I have always been drawn to the beauty of nature’s seasonal landscapes and wildlife. These are the images that I love to capture and enjoy painting. My painting style is contemporary realism with impressionistic backgrounds. My preferred medium is watercolour, which I love for the transparency, spontaneity and beautiful glazing that can be achieved on watercolor paper. I use both the direct painting method as well as watercolor pouring. Both these techniques allow me to create the many wonderful variations of light, color and texture that I find in nature. My objective is to share a special moment in time, a scene that inspired me to paint. The greatest reward is to see my work connect, draw in, and resonate with the viewer in a meaningful way.

When I think of the Meadowlark, I think of its song. It’s the morning song I hope to hear when I venture out to enjoy a nature hike. In the painting ‘Morning Song’, I wanted to capture the meadowlark doing what he does best – pausing to entertain us with his song. He reminds us all to listen and take time to appreciate the wonderful sounds of nature.
