Description Of This Tour
Explore the south Okanagan’s vibrant forest transitions and wildlife habitats from valley bottom to highlands as we head upslope along the R201 forestry road through bunch grass-ponderosa pine-bunch grass ecosystems, Douglas-fir and larch stands, and lodgepole pine, aspen and spruce at higher elevations. We’ll make several stops along the way to observe and discuss changes in vegetation, habitats, the influence of fire, and anticipated long-term impacts to these ecosystems from climate change. The tour will be led by forester and UBC Okanagan PhD student Rob Friberg. Bring clothing appropriate to cooler temperatures at higher elevation and footwear for short walks in the forest. Bring vehicles suitable to bumpy gravel road conditions.
