Description Of This Tour

Come Meet Lauren Meads, BSC, MSC, Executive Director of the Burrowing Owl Conservation Society. She will take you on a journey through the world of the only owl that lives underground.

The Western Burrowing Owl, Athene cunicularia hypugaea, is a Species at Risk in Canada and was extirpated (extinct in region) from British Columbia (BC) in the 1980s.

For over 30 years the Burrowing Owl Conservation Society of British Columbia has been working to reintroduce the Burrowing Owl to the grasslands of BC through captive breeding and habitat enhancement.

After Lauren’s presentation talk on the owls, we will have our education owl Pluto available for questions and photographs. Come get a selfie with Pluto!

Tour Leader: Lauren Meads
