Description Of This Tour
Join us on an eclectic tour of Fairview, the Okanagan’s own Gold Rush Ghost Town. The Fairview Townsite, near Oliver, hosts the endangered shrub Antelope Bitterbrush (aka Greasewood). This remarkable shrub supports a diverse community of microbes, ants, butterflies and rodents, as well as having Indigenous cultural uses. We will then take the short drive to Tinhorn Winery, hike through the vineyard and inspect the ruins of a century-old gold stamp mill. Join landscape architect Ariel Vernon, local historian Larry Shannon and ecologist/wine aficionado Don Gayton as we explore gold fever, viticulture and shrub ecology.
