Description Of This Tour

This is a wonderful guided bus tour with Dr. Murray Roed that traces the numerous landscape changes throughout geological history in Kelowna. Envision a huge river that flowed through a rugged volcanic canyon 50 million years ago, implications of the Okanagan Valley Fault, and enjoy a hike along the base of Boucherie Mountain (note: Difficulty Level 2) where giant tumbled blocks of columnar basalt seem like the ruins of an ancient civilization. Other stops reveal the profound effects of erosion during development of the landscape, effects of the last glacial period, the site of a recently discovered glaciation at least one million years old and the curious layering of Layer Cake Hill and the Pinnacle in Gallaghers Canyon, and much more.
