Description Of This Tour
Join riparian ecologist Kasey Moran and Okanagan Nation Alliance geomorphologist Zoe Eyjolfsen in exploring the controversial topic of urban cottonwood ecology, including impacts of flood protection (dams, dikes, channelization, sediment catchment basins), and relationships to beavers and other wildlife species. We will explore local conservation and restoration efforts, including planting and process-based methods, with examples along Penticton Creek and the Okanagan River. If you are interested in learning about the relationships between river dynamics and cottonwood forests, you can also register for the morning tour (Cottonwoods Part 1), which will take place in the Similkameen Valley.
