Description Of This Tour
How do we bring nature into the city? Can the reintroduction of natural ecosystems into urban areas be beneficial for both wildlife and people? Join local architect Chris Allen, and fisheries scientist Paul Askey, as they tour two building renovations adjacent to Penticton Creek, and explore how they relate to the creek-side walkway, and the recent naturalization of the stream. The tour will begin at a renovated art moderne home that uses the amenities of a walkable downtown to provide a comfortable retirement lifestyle. The group will then make its way downstream, viewing the restoration work that has been done to the creek bed, and improvements to Kokanee spawning habitat. The tour will finish at Landform Architecture’s recently renovated office, with a discussion of future phases of restoration.
