Historically, Penticton Creek moved around, creating conditions for salmon and cottonwood trees to thrive. Channelization of the creek narrowed the extent of the river and riparian corridor, destroyed fish habitat, and nearly eliminated the ability of the ecosystem to regenerate itself. As sections of the creek are restored to allow for fish passage and spawning, it is important that we also address damage to the riparian zone, including the relationships between cottonwood, salmon, and all the living things that rely on them. Kasey Moran, riparian ecologist, to explore the interesting, important, and sometimes controversial, topic of urban cottonwood ecology. Suitable for ages 8+.

Kasey Moran is a riparian ecologist from Penticton, BC. She works for Okanagan Nation Alliance on river and riparian assessment and restoration projects throughout Syilx territory.
