Join a discovery tour of a recent cultural burn project with Rheana Marchand-Edward from the Lower Similkameen Indian Band Natural Resources Department, (Marc Steynan, Okanagan Nation Alliance Natural Resource Department Team Lead), Jay Kehne from Sagelands Heritage Associate Director for Conservation Northwest, and Doreen Olson, naturalist and founding member of the Meadowlark Festival.

ćiḱilaxʷm k’l’ akɬpʕas (cultural burning at Place of the Nighthawk) – Learn about the application of fire as a restoration measure and the blending of TEK (traditional ecological knowledge) with science to monitor species response and ecosystem health in a unique grassland habitat. This project is supported by Okanagan Nation Alliance, BC Parks, BC Wildlife Federation, UBC, and BC Wildlife Service as well as many other groups in the region.

Come walk the land, hear the Meadowlarks and see the regrowth that has occurred since this early spring cultural burn. Please note, some ash remains, so dress appropriately.
