Join riparian ecologist Kasey Moran and wusxnalqs, Rheana Marchand-Edward, a smelqmix-syilx Nation member and suxḱəɬʕaćxəntn/environmental scientist, for a tour of cottonwood ecosystems in the Similkameen. You will learn about the interdependent cycles of river movement and forest regeneration, the impacts of diking and bank armoring, and how these magical trees help the land during low water years. We will discuss the global movement to make room for the river by removing built infrastructure from floodplains. Working with the LSIB Natural Resources Department, Rheana helps facilitate TEK (traditional ecological knowledge) and land management practices and will share how these ecosystems uphold the principle of stɬʔtaɬt k̓l siwɬkw –  Responsibilities to Water.
