Join the Vermilion Forks Field Naturalists for coffee and muffins before heading off for a birding trip to Swan Lake. The lake is located in a ‘kettle’ – a deep depression created by glacial action about 12,000 years ago. The lake is surrounded by open rangeland and dotted with huge ponderosa pine. The 57 hectares of undulating grassland are home to an abundance of native flora and bird species such as pied-billed grebes, ruddy ducks, Barrow’s goldeneye, possibly a sora or a painted turtle. Price includes refreshments.

John Henry has worked at Cathedral Park for twelve seasons, leads hikes with the naturalists, and has worked with fossils in the Princeton Museum. Mary Masiel is a fellow naturalist, a past president of Vermilion Forks Field Naturalists, and helps organize outings for VFFN.
